MoniThor Pro Installation Guide

MoniThor Pro gives you full access to hardware sensors on your Mac — CPU and GPU temperatures, fan speeds, and power draw. This guide walks you through installation, the 7-day free trial, and license activation.

1. Download & Install

  1. Download MoniThor Pro — this downloads a .dmg file to your Mac.
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg file by double-clicking it.
  3. Drag MoniThor Pro into the Applications folder.
  4. Launch MoniThor Pro from your Applications folder or Spotlight.

MoniThor Pro is notarized by Apple, so macOS will allow it to run without any security warnings.

2. Sensor Helper Setup

On first launch, MoniThor Pro will ask to install a small privileged helper tool. This is required to read hardware sensor data like temperatures, fan speeds, and power draw.

  1. A dialog will appear asking to install the sensor helper. Click Install.
  2. macOS will prompt for your administrator password. Enter it to authorize the installation.
  3. Once installed, sensor data will appear immediately — no restart needed.

Why does this need admin access? Hardware sensors on macOS are protected by the System Management Controller (SMC). Reading temperature, fan, and power data requires a privileged helper that runs with elevated permissions. This is the same approach used by other system monitoring apps. The helper only reads sensor data — it cannot modify your system.

3. Your 7-Day Free Trial

MoniThor Pro comes with a 7-day free trial — no credit card required, no sign-up needed. During the trial, you get full access to all Pro features:

  • CPU, GPU, SSD, memory, and battery temperatures
  • Fan speed readings (RPM)
  • Power draw in watts
  • All standard monitoring features (CPU, RAM, GPU, network, disk, battery)

A small banner at the top of the app shows how many trial days remain. After 7 days, sensor features (temperatures, fans, power) will be disabled. All other monitoring features continue to work.

4. Purchase a Lifetime License

When you're ready to keep the Pro features, purchase a lifetime license for $9.99 — one-time payment, no subscription.

  1. Click Buy License in the trial banner, or visit monithor.dev/buy.
  2. Complete the checkout via our payment partner Paddle. We accept credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay.
  3. After purchase, you'll receive an email with your Transaction ID (starts with txn_).

5. Activate Your License

  1. Open MoniThor Pro and click on any metric in the menu bar to open the popover.
  2. Click Buy License in the trial banner at the top.
  3. In the license window, paste your Transaction ID and click Activate.
  4. You'll see a green confirmation: License activated successfully! All Pro features are now permanently unlocked.

Troubleshooting

Helper won't install / no admin password prompt

Make sure MoniThor Pro is in your /Applications folder — the helper cannot be installed if you run the app directly from the .dmg or from another location. If you previously had an older version installed, try removing the app from Applications, then re-dragging it from a fresh .dmg download.

Sensors not showing after helper install

Quit MoniThor Pro completely and relaunch it. If sensor data still doesn't appear, check that the helper is running by opening Terminal and typing: sudo launchctl list | grep monithor. You should see com.monithor.helper.smc in the output.

License activation fails

Make sure you're entering the full Transaction ID from your email (starts with txn_). Your Mac needs an internet connection to verify the transaction. If the problem persists, contact us at support@monithor.dev.

macOS shows a security warning

MoniThor Pro is signed and notarized by Apple. If you see a warning, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. This can happen if the app was downloaded by a browser that adds extra quarantine flags.
